Chef Tony’s Grand Opening
On September 19th, 2021, Lily attended the grand opening of Tony Ho’s restaurant. Famously known for its delicious dim sum, there were many people attending the event, including press and Asian American elected officials. Lily had the opportunity to make a speech in which she proudly honored those elected officials and exclaimed about the great voter turnout among the API community.
“I am very much honored to be among the most progressive Asian American elected officials. We are privileged, I am privileged to be able to be here. We have come a long way. Years ago, I would have never expected see so many Asian American elected officials with me. When I started, I did not have any mentors or fellow AAPI elected officials. I struggled. But now ladies and gentlemen, you are going to be the best role models for the future generations of Asian Americans, serving as the best leaders for your respective cities.
During the 2020 election, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders had a record-breaking turnout. Compared to the elections in the past, our engagement percentages increased, jumping from 49.3% to 59.5%! You should congratulate yourselves. Let’s keep moving forward towards a greater success, and continue exercising our voting rights.”
Voices in Unity Concert
That Saturday, Lily was also able to attend a concert held by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce Los Angeles, held at the LA County Arboretum. The title of the concert, Voices in Unity followed the theme of uniting not only the AAPI community, but people of all ethnicities and cultures; especially among the recent Stop Asian Hate Movement.
