Stop AAPI Hate

Within this past year, anti-Asian violence has skyrocketed, with hate crimes doubling in numbers compared to the past few years. Amid the spike in Asian Hate Crimes, many are recalling the 1982 murder of Vincent Chin. His case is a somber reminder that anti-Asian bias has been, and is still prevalent in our society.

Stewart Kwoh’s words about Lily’s involvement in the Vincent Chin case

After Chin’s murder, Lily organized a meeting with Committee 100 and other API organizations to bring the SoCal Asian American community together. Lily recalls two important conclusions that were made at the meeting: firstly, that the plea deal given to Chin’s attackers was more than unfit for the severity of their crimes; and secondly, that the Asian American community had to be united in order to combat anti-Asian sentiment.

Lily still stands by these statements, and is a strong advocate for unity within the Asian American community, especially as history is repeating itself with current anti-Asian violence. She encourages the younger generations of Asian Americans to continue educating themselves and protect their elders; she says,

“I am confident that the next generation of Asian Americans has the ability to do better than we were ever able to do.”
